Innovation of the week
And breathe… Creative designers and chefs Bompas & Parr are to launch a pop-up bar with a walk-in cloud of breathable cocktail. Named Alcoholic Architecture and open on London’s 1 Cathedral Street from 31 July to January 2016, the bar will invite guests to put on protective suits before entering the atmospheric cocktail cloud, which has been created using spirits and mixer at a ratio of 1:3. Alcohol will enter the bloodstream through guests’ lungs and eyeballs. With the air saturated to up to 140% humidity, visibility will be at less than a metre, and time in the room will be limited to one hour. Entry will be bookable at a cost of £10, rising to a £12.50 peak charge in the evenings and weekends. Outside the cloud, the site’s drinks list has been designed to tie in with the cathedral location, and is based on drinks traditionally created by monks, including Chartreuse and Bénédictine.

La Bonne Auberge Glasgow celebrates 40 years Glasgow brasserie La Bonne Auberge at the Holiday Inn Glasgow Theatreland has celebrated its 40th birthday with a party for specially- invited guests, including entertainment from French-appropriate can-can girls, magicians, musicians and a caricaturist. Founded 40 years ago by Maurice Taylor, the restaurant serves French Mediterranean brasserie food, and still receives bookings from guests who first ate there in 1975 and have been coming back ever since. Speaking at the party, Taylor said: “I’m often asked, what is the secret of La Bonne Auberge’s success? Well, for me, the secret resides in giving the customers what they want, otherwise they vote with their feet.” La Bonne Auberge is located in Glasgow’s Theatreland district, and is surrounded by theatres, including the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
