when we change something. It is very important to learn as a team including the rally engineers and mechanics as well,” he continues.
“In WEC, we are six drivers and in the rally we are only four drivers so it is even more important that we share the tests, and exchange ideas and opinions. The feeling so far is all very good. You need other drivers to help improve and that’s very important; we are a strong team and I am happy to work with these guys.”
On juggling his time and adapting to the demands of differing disciplines, Stéphane is as enthusiastic as ever.
“The early part of the year is quite busy because we have a lot of tests with LMP1 but otherwise the season is quite spread out. I do a lot on the bicycle when I’m not in a car to keep fit which is a really important part for all my driving. I have time to spend with my family at home although even then we still drive karts!
“The cars and driving are very different. Both LMP1 and rally are very special but from the rally car to the LMP1 is a big step. The key is to be fit and alert to be able to work with the engineers and the team to find the best performance. Our WRC and LMP1 cars are top level cars and I’m lucky because I am driving a lot and that’s what I like,” he says.

“Although I hadn’t really thought about it before, I am extremely proud to have worked with TOYOTA on so many motorsport projects and the confidence the company has shown in me. It is a good team spirit with all the guys: my team- mates and everybody, so I have a positive feeling. The experiences are different but I enjoy all my time in the cars.
“Formula 1 was a long time ago but in LMP1 we have secured a big title and in rally we are working for this.”
