The powertrain is made up of a normally-aspirated 3.7 litre V8 petrol engine, Aisin AW motor/generator (MGU) on the front axle and DENSO unit at the rear, which combine to provide four-wheel hybrid drive. The two MGUs apply braking force in conjunction with the traditional brake disks to capture energy which is transferred via a DENSO inverter to the NISSHINBO super capacitor. Through this process, extra power becomes available for rapid acceleration out of corners.

“We have put huge effort into upgrading the whole car, including the powertrain where we have made improvements in most areas,” explains Hisatake Murata, General Manager Motor Sports Unit Development Division. “This means that total maximum power is over 1,000PS and the performance of the powertrain has been considerably

enhanced. As a result, we will achieve maximum hybrid energy more consistently than last season.”

As with TMG’s other motorsport activities, the TS040 HYBRID is an ongoing demonstration of the company’s capabilities in terms of facilities and processes for design, development and manufacturing.
