Cartoon Network Amazone Thailand’s award-winning waterpark!

Leading Edge

Awards According to the World Watrepark Assocation, the Leading Edge Award is presented to a waterpark and supplier who, through their combined efforts, have brought a project, product, service or programme to fruition, thereby creating industry innovation and leadership. As well as Cartoon Network Amazone, other winners announced last month in Las Vegas included Aquaventure at Atlantis the Palm in Dubai (supplied by WhiteWater, see over the page), Wet ’n’ Wild Sydney in Australia (WhiteWater/ProSlide), and Center Parcs Woburn Forest, UK (ProSlide).

Less than one month after opening, Thailand’s newest waterpark has picked up an esteemed award from the World Waterpark Association (WWA)

C

artoon Network Amazone in Bang Saray near Pattaya was honoured last month with a Leading Edge Award from the WWA at its trade show and

symposium in Las Vegas. There to pick up the award were the park’s CEO Liakat Dhanji, together with Baris Pakis of supplier Polin Waterparks and Pool Systems. The highly themed and colourful new park in Thailand is the first in the world to feature the Cartoon Network and brands including Ben 10 and Powerpuff Girls, following four years of negotiations between owner and developer Amazon Falls and rights holder Turner Enterprises. Headline attractions include Humangaslide (King Cobra) and one of the world’s first Polin sphere slides, Omnitrix, featuring added special effects. “Though theming in waterparks is not new, the theming of the all waterslides as characters or elements of a story is something brand new,” notes Pakis. “The characters or story elements were not after painted onto the rides. Polin manufactured each slide with the design element themed into the fibreglass itself and then gel-coated the slides. This makes it unique.” The park officially opened on 3 October and after operating at limited capacity for the first month has now entered high season. “Thailand is basically on holiday for two months!” smiles Cartoon Network Amazone spokesperson Judi Tang. Further crowds are expected for Chinese New Year in February. As well as the local trade and visitors on “daycation” from

Bangkok, the park is also expected to attract the many Russian tourists who holiday locally.
