Put the gun down! (and have some fun)

Interactive Scenery Wall

fascinated by the difference. It something people can’t get on the big screen at home. For the second year in Orlando we will also demonstrate our Interactive Scenery Wall, as pictured left. We have combined and mastered the technologies that “bring to life” any inanimate object with projected light and interactivity. It makes a physical surface part of the game and story, and even works on fog and water. Interactive rollercoasters are an interesting development. I think it’s a very exciting combination and our research indicates the key to success is providing the guests time to enjoy both aspects of the ride. At IAAPA, we will also present some new ideas for walk-through attractions, a combination of a shooting dark ride and laser tag. Guests can interact not only with a screen, but also with each other. And because there is no ride system, you will have more time to wander around the experience and see everything.

At the moment we are working on over 10 different Alterface Projects offers fresh take on interactivity Earlier this year, Alterface

Projects CEO Benoit Cornet shared with Park World his belief that the current generation of interactive theme park experiences are fast becoming commoditised as technologies evolve. Cornet’s company has developed and is manufacturing the next generation of interactive attractions that utilise several new techniques to further engage and entertain guests. Ahead of the company’s participation this month in IAAPA Attractions Expo, he tells us more

Interactive Theatre. Today, when most in our industry talk about interactive attractions, they are referring to that same hand-held gun play on a flat screen. Gun play is still fun and suited to many storylines, however our discussions recently with customers, be it big park chains or smaller attractions, have moved on. Interactivity can be achieved in many different ways other than traditional hand-held gun play. For example, our software platform supports fascinating options such as a guests’ own mobile devices, non-gun devices such as a flashlight or wand, gesture capturing, or perhaps someday the integration of the sizzling hot Oculus Rift virtual reality headset. Gesture-based interfaces are very interesting. Imagine a sensor that can trace the movement of your hand. You could pick up virtual objects, perform actions that change scene elements and storyline, and pitch stuff at the screen. This can be done and we are already doing this with the LEAP interface. The imagination runs wild with ideas. Every guest wants to feel special and connected to the story, and our technology furthers a “guest- centric” experience.

Another cool thing that will be happening at Alterface Projects’ booth at IAAPA is what we call “perfect perspective” integration. Our system utilises head detection technology to modify content, 3D or otherwise, for every single person in the ride or show. This means no matter your height or position within the ride, you are getting custom content for your eye. This is a big deal and we think park operators and guests are going to be

hen we founded Alterface 13 years ago, our first big success was a group shooting game with special effects dubbed the

IP-based projects that will open over the next year. Details for most of them are still classified, with the majority happening in the UAE and China. We are very pleased to be involved in Hero Venture’s Marvel Experience touring attraction in the USA, which debuts in Scottsdale, Arizona on 12 December and will set a new standard for interactive entertainment. We are also working on several attraction experiences using the brilliant Raving Rabbids IP from Ubisoft in France. I think Alterface Projects is uniquely qualified right now within the interactive attractions space because we bring our leading patented technology to clients at an excellent value. Our portfolio of interactivity options work seamlessly within our patented SALTO control software platform to create endless creative tools for ride development. We are not resting on today; we continue to dream and push this media- based entertainment revolution further within attractions. There’s a lot more interactive fun ahead!
