Dragon Boat Day 2014 was sponsored by Hong Kong and Macau's tourist boards and saw teams of 18 representing airlines, hotel groups and operators to the Far East race against each other in this colourful and exciting regional sport. After a series of heats, the grand
fi nal was won by the fast and furious Air China Cruisers, with an amazing time of 58.58 seconds. In second place was the team from Lanson Place Hong Kong and bronze went to team Advantage. A very special team was Blue Bay Travel who called
themselves Reuben’s Rowers after the charity Reuben’s Retreat who they were raising funds for for.
ROWING FOR A REASON Reuben’s Retreat (
reubensretreat.org) was born in memory of Reuben Michael Graham who tragically passed away aged 23 months. His parent’s goal is to provide a retreat in the North West of England countryside that relieves the distress of children suffering from a life limiting or terminal illnesses and gives their families fi nd help and comfort. As well as the races there was plenty of riverside action to keep guests entertained, such as
giant Jenga, mystical tarot card readings, a fun photo booth, a traditional Chinese lion dance and to round it all off, a well- deserved barbeque sponsored by Cathay Pacifi c.
