2014 HOLIDAY OFFICE CLOSINGS
Ozarks Electric Cooperative offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 27 - 28, so that our employees may enjoy and celebrate Thanksgiving with their families.
We will also be closed, Wednesday, December 24 at 12:00 pm and Thursday, December 25 as well as Thursday, January 1, 2015.
Holiday Decorating Safety Tips
Very few things are as unique to the winter holiday season as the custom of decorating your home and yard. A 2013 consumer survey by the Electrical Safety Foundation found that 86 percent of Americans decorate their homes for the winter holidays and more than half of those use lighted decorations inside the home.
Lights and electrical decorations may add to the festive season, but they can also pose a risk of fire or electrical shock if not utilized properly. There are tips you should consider when purchasing trees and electrical decorations.
• Only use approved decorations outdoors and as directed
• If purchasing a natural tree, look for one that is well hydrated with vibrant green needles that do not break or shed easily.
• If you use an artificial tree, make sure that it is tested and labeled as fire resistant.
• When choosing lights, consider LED (Light-Emitting Diode) lights that generate less heat.
When planning and implementing lighting design:
• Turn off all indoor and outdoor holiday lighting before leaving the house or going to bed.
• Never drape anything over a light bulb or lampshade. • Don’t overload outlets – follow manufacturer’s directions. Never connect more than three strands of incandescent lights together.
• Always unplug electrical decorations before replacing bulbs or fuses.
