n anaerobic digestion plant has opened in Surrey which will generate


enough electricity to power 4,800 homes. sara LBS has supplied an interlocked door system which will keep the building sealed at all times, conforming to the Environmental Agency's requirements. In a recent statement the Rt. Hon.


Owen Paterson MP, speaking on behalf of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs commented: “We're committed to increasing the


proportion of energy we obtain from renewable sources to at least 15% by 2020. Energy from waste can contribute to meeting these targets.” Agrivert is a UK leader of


environmentally responsible waste management solutions with several sites in England that treat biological waste to allow for clean disposal while generating renewable energy. Its most recent development is a large food digester which will be able to convert 50,000 tonnes of food waste per annum and generate approximately 2.4MW of

electricity. Part of the heat generated by the process will be used to dry waste wood to provide sustainable fuel. “By treating the waste rather than just


sending it to landfill we are able to harvest renewable energy and recycle the matter,” comments chief executive Alexander Maddan. “Working in harmony with the community and ensuring there is not a negative impact to the quality of life of nearby residents is extremely important. Not only did we carefully select the location of the plant, we designed it to be as discrete as possible. Part of this involves a system of interlocked doors at the entrance and exit which can only ever open one at a time, effectively sealing the building."
