ABB and ESC launch new e-learning

A

BB’s Safety Lead Competency Centre (SLCC) and Engineering Safety Consultants (ESC) are pleased

to announce the launch of an e-learning technical training course entitled ‘’Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA) incorporating FMECA and FMEDA in the context of IEC 61508’’ As the functional safety marketplace continues to grow at a pace, many new and existing devices are available for use in safety related applications. It requires an adequate level of competence to be able to achieve compliance with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 in order to use these devices within a safety instrumented system (SIS). In many cases, the information on such devices requires intelligent interpretation and analysis in order to ensure that they are designed and engineered in accordance with the requirements of the standard. Competency in FMEA is a cornerstone of effective design, implementation and integration of complex safety related devices. This new course has been developed to meet industry needs to ensure engineers receive appropriate training and mentoring for the challenges in compliance with IEC 61508 requirements.

conducted yearly since 1980. Mr. Fell, one of the UK’s prominent authorities on industrial gas processes, was recently presented The Welding Institute’s Distinguished Service Award for his significant contribution to improving the safety of oxy-fuel gas processes to the development of general fabrication. Mr. Fell was honored during The Welding Institute’s Annual Awards and Dinner, 1 July 2014 at King’s College, Cambridge, where more than 200 invited guests from industry and academia were present. The Welding Institute is the professional division of TWI, one of the world’s foremost independent research and technology organisations with expertise in engineering, materials and joining technologies. The Welding Institute Awards are presented by the Council of The Welding Institute on an annual basis.

ESAB’s gas inspectors’ course leader recognised for service excellence

SAB is pleased to recognise the service excellence of David Fell, course leader for its popular Gas Inspectors’ Courses,

ell Packaging Limited have launched a new mini tube range to support the expanding standard sizes. New tooling has been

completed for Injection Moulded End Caps using the standard push fit and patented Jetlok® designs. Available in minimum orders of 2,500 packs the tubes are supplied packed flat making shipping and storage very economic. The end caps can be moulded in most colours. Square and rectangular tube profiles are available – commenting on the range Managing Director Peter Lennie stated “This is a really exciting addition to the Jetran® program. The small tubes have been dominated by extruded and pre-formed containers which are expensive to produce, transport and store.“ The new Jetran® tubes are supplied packed flat and available in a variety of materials including RPET, PP, PVC and Board. All materials are Pharma/Food grade – the end caps can be produced in almost any colour.

BM has introduced the C10 SG-based compressive force transducer with a radial-

symmetrical design making it insensitive to external influences for highly accurate measurements. The transducer features a high output signal of up to 4 mV/V while reliability has been increased through improved compensation of eccentric force applications and other parasitic influences. The transducer is insensitive to temperature effects because of the very low temperature coefficients of the zero point (TC0) of 75 ppm/10 K. The compressive force transducer is designed for use under difficult ambient conditions and is available in either stainless steel or aluminium for improved hermetic protection of the strain gauges in the measuring body. The steel version provides IP68 degree of protection due to the hermetically welded enclosure. The C10 is available with various nominal forces from 2.5 kN to 1 MN and with accuracy classes of 0.03 to 0.06.
