PREVIEW PPMA 2014 OPERATOR SAFETY AND EASE OF HANDLING

Jarshire says its focus at PPMA may be summed up as operator safety, ease of handling, and waste reduction. A slitter process simulator utilising the Lift Assist from Dotec is an example of the coordination of process speed, operator safety and ergonomics. In terms of waste reduction, Jarshire’s Reelsaver will

restore 3", 6" and 8" ID cores on old or damaged reel stock with a flick of a switch, allowing customers to make big savings. Packaging material that once had to be put aside because of damage to cores sustained during transit or on-site handling can now be back in the production stream within minutes. Process speed can benefit from lightweight

airshafts from Svecom manufactured from aircraft- grade aluminium. The low weight of the shaft body allows easy and safe manual handling, resulting in efficient insertion and withdrawal of the shaft from the reels thereby increasing production through quicker reel changes.

Jarshire’s Recycling and

Environmental Division will feature the successful IPS V606 Vertical Baler that handles cardboard, paper and plastic. The V606 produces bales that are the most convenient size for recycling companies to handle. Safe, reliable and of heavy-duty construction, the

As growth in the UK manufacturing sector continues to accelerate industry professionals are poised to flock to this year’s PPMA Show 2014, the UK’s leading, free-to-attend complete production line event for processing and packaging machinery. Now in its 27th year, the show has

Pacepacker Services says it will showcase the widest range of pick and place solutions on the market. Six pick and place systems demonstrating the three main technologies: robotic (articulated arm, delta and Cartesian), electro/pneumatic Cartesian and bespoke styles will show innovative ways to handle a variety of unpackaged and packaged FMCG goods. In addition to Pacepacker’s own equipment, robot technology from FANUC and Festo will be on show.

From entry-level economical systems to complex bespoke automation solutions, visitors will have the chance to compare and contrast all three robot technologies side-by-side. With 20 different end-effector tools to choose

from in vacuum, gripper, magnet or clamshell style, visitors will see the robots effectively handle the most delicate of products with repeatable accuracy at speeds of up to 180 packs per minute. Visitors will see typical food handling scenarios

including a Cartesian style robot which can accumulate two layers of three dip tubs into a shallow shelf-ready box, layer picks of blueberry punnets placed into retail trays, netted fruits loaded into supermarket crates plus biscuits placed into blister packs and then packed into retailer trays. End of line articulated arm FANUC robots will demonstrate box and retailer tray palletising.

Government’s first appointed supermarket ombudsman Christine Tacon will talk about her work with the UK’s largest supermarkets and demonstrate her aim to work with associations including the PPMA to help encourage feedback from suppliers whether it’s personal, anonymous or through a trade association. Further speakers include Craig Mochrie from Morrison Bowmore and Martin Dallas from Essentra Packaging who will present on real time management information systems and creative packaging technologies. PPMA 2014 will take the opportunity

to once again recognise the best and brightest up-and-coming talent in the industry with the return of the Ones to Watch competition judged on entrepreneurial spirit and a commitment to the industry.
