on the first workpiece and “learns” the maximum spindle load for each operation. The user then sets an allowable override of the programmed feed rate, and from there ACM adjusts the feed rate for maximum efficiency based on the learned load val- ue. When cutting conditions are lighter, feed rate is increased and cycle time reduced. Where the load becomes heavier due to unexpected workpiece hardness or thickness, the system re- duces the feed, even to below the programmed rate, to protect the cutting tools and workpiece. ACM automatically increases the feed rate to maximum during air cutting, then pauses and lowers the feed immediately prior to entering the material. Mini Barfeeder Lexair’s new Multi Mini Rhinobar barfeeder makes multidi- ameter bar stock processing faster and easier with a feed tube cartridge that automatically centers and feeds three sizes of small-diameter bar stock to Swiss-style CNC screw machines and sliding-head lathes. Cartridges are available in three size ranges and each three-tube cartridge is enclosed in a standard aluminum barrel. The Multi Mini helps achieve maximum throughput for high-production runs of automotive components, medical devices, motor shafts and other small- diameter parts. Two models are available for processing either 6 or 12' (1.82 or 3.65-m) bar stock. The barfeed- er’s ergonomic design features an upgraded safety interlock system, and includes a front


swing-out mechanism for easy reloading and sub three-min- ute feed tube changes. Y-Axis Attachment Fives brings off-centerline turning, drilling, milling and tapping capabilities to its Giddings & Lewis vertical turning centers with a new Y-axis attachment that combines a C-axis head with table and X and Z-axes motions. The attachment, available fully integrated on new VTCs or as a retrofit, allows for single-setup processing of flanged parts,


pumps, compressors, motor housings, fluid routing parts, in- takes and exhausts, among others. The C-axis head provides ±45° rotation, creating a machining range of Y-axis features of ± the VTC table radius. The continuous power 22-kW (29-hp) attachment has a maximum spindle speed of 2200 rpm, and continuous torque of 875 N•m (645 ft-lb), and can be loaded
