The Chairman’s Message
Nicholas Colquhoun-Denvers
‘The Year of the Horse’ What an auspicious way to start a season - to have the year named after our very favourite animal!
We also hope it will be an exciting year for the Club and all its members. The country has been through a pretty hard winter and emerged battered, bruised and still a little damp but unbowed as always and looking forward to the promise of a summer which only England can provide. We have lost a few trees, the odd sign or two and sadly our HPC tent which had been generously donated by Marc Franklin a long-serving member of the Club. But considering we are located on the Thames Flood Plain we have fared pretty well, knowing the vagaries of the English weather we will no doubt be facing a hosepipe ban within a few months!!
Committee and Staff at the Club have had quite an eventful winter as well. Sadly Sue Platt left us in October but we thank her for seeing out the season and wish her the best of luck in her new venture. Santi Boudou our Stable Manager will not be returning this season but instead we have 4 goaler, Lorenzo Larumbe, also from Coronel Suarez, joining us for his first season in the UK. We are delighted that our Polo Manager Will Healy & Assistant Polo Manger and Chief Coach Charlie Wood will be back in harness and that the Polo Academy will be based out of the Manor Farm Stables again which have been rented on a three year lease from Peter McCormack.
Sadly Nick Wills has had to step down due to pressure of work and a new well earned promotion but we are delighted that Paul de Rivaz has agreed to step in as Hon Treasurer and w e are sure he will bring a host of experience to the post. We thank Nick for his enthusiasm and work carried out on our behalf.
We have quite a few new Members on board for this year as well as several Members returning to the Club from elsewhere which is heartening so we are hopefully looking at a pretty full livery yard again this year. There are new Sponsorships in the pipeline although sadly IG Index has decamped from Polo into Rugby, a loss to Ham Polo Club but we have had some wonderful experiences for which we thank them. Savills of Richmond have returned and EFG continue their stalwart support, not only of us, but polo globally for which we are honoured to be part.
All I am left with is to hope for yet another great summer and wish you all an enjoyable, happy and safe season.
