Access Bank Fifth Chukker Polo Day

Access Bank and Fifth Chukker once again demonstrated their support for sports, health, the environment and social welfare through the staging of an impressive polo event.

Under the glorious sunshine at the spectacular location of Ham Polo Club, over three hundred esteemed guests of Access Bank and Fifth Chukker were greeted with a glass of champagne before mingling in the elegantly decorated marquee erected alongside the clubhouse. The pleasant atmosphere was enhanced by the music of a Senegalese Kora virtuoso Kadialy Kouyate.

The distinguished dignitaries in attendance included the former Access Bank Group Managing Director, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede; Access Bank, Chairman, Gbenga Oyebode; the current Access Bank Group Managing Director, Herbert Wigwe; The Access Bank UK, CEO/Managing Director, Jamie Simmonds; an industrialist, Chief Molade Okoya Thomas; Access Bank Non-Executive Director, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe; MD/CEO, Folawiyo Group, Tunde Folawiyo and CEO of Shoreline Energy International Plc, Kola Karim amongst others.

During the lavish three course lunch that preceded the games, guests learned about the invaluable support that Access Bank and Fifth Chukker provide to UINCEF and its anti-HIV/ AIDS and anti-poverty campaigns in northern Nigeria.

The polo was watched with interest and excitement and featured world No. 1 Adolfo Cambiaso and Princess Maitha of Dubai. At this year’s event Adolfo Cambiaso arrived with the rest of his La Dolfina 40 goal team to back up Adamu Atta’s Fifth Chukker and Tajudeen Dantata’s Kangimi Titans in this high goal, two match polo extravaganza.

The first fixture was the 11-goal game won by RTC Kangimi against Shoreline Delany. Mustapha Sherif, Babangida Hassan, Diego White and Thomas Uscher lined up for RTC Kangimi, while Tunde Karim, Juan Ambroggio, Tom de Bruin and Kola Karim were on form for Shoreline Delaney.

Access Bank Fifth Chukker were the victors of the high goal match where Fifth Chukker founder and owner, Adamu Atta was joined by Adolfo Cambiaso, HH Sheika Maitha Mohammed Al Maktoum and Pablo Mac Donough. Their worthy opponents were Pelon Stirling, Lucas Monteverde, Rashid Albwardy and Tajudeen Dantata.

After the prize-giving presented by the former Access Bank CEO Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Industrialists Molade Okoya Thomas and Tunde Folawiyo, as well as the current Access Bank Managing Director Herbert Wigwe, players and guests adjourned to the clubhouse for an enjoyable celebration accompanied by a performance of the wonderful singer Gena West. It was an unforgettable day and we look forward to next year’s event.
