The weather held out and the fields were in great condition for the season’s first tournament, the Ham House Trophy. Many thanks must go to Ollie and Jo Stuart who had the trophy restored over the winter and added a new base to the cup. It is now an even more attractive piece of silverware to try and take home.
Final Grounds preparation and weather came together perfectly for the final and the field could not have been in better shape. The first chukka saw scores rising in tandem, however it was clear that the two 2 goalers in La Passione’s line up were going to be strong together. By half time La Passione had a one goal lead.
The second half began with a quick goal for Cavaliers levelling the score. Guevera managed to put a few goals away and two missed penalties from Cavaliers put them behind again. In the final chukka play went from end to end and there were several missed opportunities for both teams due to relentless defence. Cavaliers managed to claw back to trail by just one goal and in the dying seconds Will Healy riding Daz made a dash for goal out running the whole opposition. The bell sounded before he got there and an ecstatic La Passione celebrated their win.
The trophy was presented to Aristide Faggionato and the winning team received bottles of FJF Champagne.
The Best Playing Pony award presented by Sarah Boland of the Liphook Equine Hospital and judged by Santi Boudou was awarded to St Tropez the English TB retrained racehorse played by Benjie Davis.
