Charity Begins At Home From Ham Polo Club

We are proud to note that some of our Members and Staff have contributed to various Charities and here are three of their stories. We are sure there are more but time has not allowed us to research.

Col Geoffrey Godbold OBE TD DL Movember - Moustache Growing in November. Our Vice President Geoffrey was part of a team that managed to raise the princely sum of £32,500 for Prostate Cancer.

Rose Millward and Dalton Ritchings HPC Staff, Suzie Davis, Tom Ross and Matt Ronseal ‘Tough Mudders’ came 7th on the list with this revenue - A great result indeed! Rose writes: “In September 2013 myself and 4 others came together to form Team Rubia to take part in the 12 mile obstacle course run in the Brecon Beacons, Wales designed by the Special Forces. We chose to do it as we wanted a goal to work towards over summer and it looked like a challenge. We chose to raise money for Cancer Research which in total we raised £1063, £200 was raised from charitable donations made by Ham Polo Club members and staff. We chose Cancer Research as one of our team had suffered from Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma as a child and Cancer research was an important charity for us to give to. On the day myself and my team completed all the obstacles including swimming through a skip of ice, crawling and running through electrical wires, climbing 12 ft. walls together, jumping off a 20ft plank into muddy water, running a mile of mud, monkey bars over muddy water and the most gruelling run of my life. Really enjoyed it and am looking to do a similar event in Cardiff this year.”

Team Yates ran 2013 London Marathon We can finally say that we completed the London Marathon!

The day itself was incredible, the sun shining throughout London and the roads packed with people from the start to finish providing motivational encouragement throughout the gruelling 26.2miles. This truly was London at its best, proving why it is such a great city. As expected there were parts of the race that were harder than others. However, remembering the reasons why we were running and the support from the side-lines really does keep you going. We had been told what to expect but nothing had quite prepared us for this (we even got a shout out on the BBC!). This all massively exceeded our expectations. After finishing, there was definitely a massive sense of relief and sense of achievement but also a lot of emotion knowing that dad wasn’t there to see us cross the finishing line.

We wanted to say a huge thank you to all of you for supporting and sponsoring us on this marathon journey (pun intended!).

We have raised approximately £15,000 for Prostate UK. We couldn’t have done it without you so thank you so, so much!
