Player Of The Year Award 2013

This prestigious award which was presented some 27 years ago by Charles Betz and family is awarded annually to a player who, in the opinion of their peers, best portrayed the spirit of sportsmanship both on and off the field of play as well as a dedication to the ideals of the club. The bronze of Billy Walsh on one of his favourite ponies, Easter Morn is a much coveted award presented each year at the Annual Players Award’s Dinner at the end of the season.

This year the worthy recipient for 2013 was Charlie Wood, 3 Goal Player from New Zealand and the Club’s Chief Coach.

After an exceptionally successful and sunny season during which Charlie proved himself most admirably. Much enthusiastic hard work, teaching, coaching and running the Club’s Instructionals throughout a very busy and long summer and still managing to keep his great sense of humour! Charlie also managed to fit in chukkas, matches, tournaments and umpiring which was then rounded off with a great deal of very amusing commentating, solo and duet, and sometimes perilously close to risky.

Charlie was a worthy recipient in the truest traditions of Ham Polo Club that Billy Walsh would have been rightly proud of.
