In third place after the short program, he took the
ice at TD Garden in Boston and put on a show that pulled 10,000-plus people out of their seats, with 20 sec- onds still left in the now-famous Riverdance program. “I was somewhere in Germany during nationals and our whole cast was watching Jason,” Ward said. “When the crowd stood up before he finished, I said, ‘Oh, my god. Tat’s exactly what I [envisioned would hap- pen]. It’s the coolest feeling when you put out that kind of energy to the universe and it comes back to you.
“I tell people it’s one thing to be an artist
and it’s another to be a technician. Jason has the capacity to be both. Under pressure, he rises and it’s great, but he also trains that way.” When Brown was asked to compete Riv-
erdance at the Olympics in the Team Event, Ward could only smile. “When I got the phone call that he was going to do his long in the Team Event, I thought, ‘Yes, all of that work paid off. Tey actually want you to do that one, the one that you didn’t think you could do, the one that you didn’t want to do, the one that you wanted to make easier — and he did it. He worked his way through it.”
Coach Kori Ade and her star pupil Jason Brown have thrived in their Colorado training environment.
