MOUNT CALM MAN TURNED HIMSELF IN TO AUTHORITIES MARCH 31 AFTER HE WAS charged with felony livestock theft. Texas and Southwestern Cattle Rais-
ers Association (TSCRA) Special Ranger Marvin Wills led the investigation. Colby W. Tennison, 20, allegedly stole 9 unbranded cattle on 2 occasions
from a victim near West in McLennan County. He then allegedly sold them at the West Livestock Auction. According to records, the cattle sold brought in more than $8,400. “We can’t stress enough the importance of branding your cattle,” says
Wills. “This was one instance where we were able to locate them, but it’s not always the case with unmarked livestock.” Wills also seized a Polaris 500 4-wheeler and more than $4,500 in cash
from Tennison. Two head of cattle were recovered and returned to the owner. TSCRA would like to thank the McLennan County Sheriff’s Offi ce for their help with the investigation.

NOTHER SUSPECT IN A DELTA AND FANNIN COUNTY CATTLE THEFT RING WAS ARRESTED April 4 on charges of organized criminal activity. Five suspects have
been arrested after a string of cattle thefts in Delta and Fannin counties took place in March 2014. TSCRA Special Rangers Toney Hurley and Troy McKin- ney led the investigation. Jonathan Jones, 20, Cooper, was arrested March 24. John Green, 43, Klon-
dike, was arrested March 26. James Shaffer, 60, Terrell, was arrested April 2. Terry Wynne, 51, Terrell, was arrested April 2. Charles Damon Williams, 35, Cooper, was arrested April 4. On March 18, 2014, authorities in Delta County received a call from a neigh-
bor of one of the victims. The neighbor had witnessed a suspicious vehicle and trailer leaving the property. The witness was able to obtain a license plate number which led authorities to the suspects. According to Hurley, as many as 26 head of cattle were stolen from 5 victims
in Delta County and 10 head from 2 victims in Fannin County. Hurley and McKinney were able to recover 32 of 36 head and return them to the victim. “This is a prime example of neighbors looking out for neighbors, which isn’t

unusual in the ranching community,” says Hurley. “Because we were able to obtain information quickly from the neighbor and work with both the Delta and Fannin County sheriff’s offi ces, we were able to track down the stolen livestock and return most of them to the victims.” Hurley says investigations are continuing, and authorities expect more arrests. TSCRA would like to thank the Delta, Fannin, Hopkins and Hunt County
Sheriff’s Departments as well as Texas Ranger John Vance for their assistance with the investigation.
