2014 Recipients of the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Foundation Veterinary Medicine Scholarship
The TSCRF proudly awarded six $5,000 scholarships to students nearing completion of a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Texas A&M’s College of Veterinary Medicine and planning careers in a large animal practice. These scholarships are made possible by private donations, proceeds from the Trail Rides and support of the TSCRA.
Eric clEmons, DimE Box, TExas Eric received a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Prairie View A&M. He has worked under numerous rural large animal veterinarians as a veterinary assistant in a rural mixed animal practice and aided in ambulatory beef herd health cases. Eric’s goal is to become a respected and proficient large animal veterinarian practicing in the Central Texas area where he was raised.
lukE DuckworTh
Luke graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. He has a passion for research and his goal is to be a food animal specialist at a
university veterinary hospital. He has spent time in Honduras working to vaccinate, deworm and treat livestock for the local people.
BrookE EckErmann, BrEnham, TExas Brooke graduated Cum Laude from Texas A&M in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. After graduation next May, she plans to practice as an associate veterinarian at a large animal practice or a mixed practice. To gain more experience, she volunteered at several large animal clinics and is currently working at a mixed animal practice during school breaks.
Joshua Garcia
A graduate of Texas A&M, Joshua plans to pursue a career as a mixed animal practitioner in a rural area of Texas after completing his doctor of veterinary medicine degree
next May. His goal is to one day own his own mixed animal practice and continue serving large animal veterinary medicine. After shadowing an equine veterinarian as an undergraduate, he realized he wanted to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
JorDan haTfiElD Jordan attended Texas A&M for his undergraduate studies, and during his sophomore year he completed an internship at the 6666 Ranch. During that internship, he became interested in becoming a veterinarian and specifically large animal medicine. Jordan has an interest in becoming a surgeon and after graduation plans to pursue a food animal internship and then a food animal surgery residency.
maTThEw soDEk, fayETTEvillE, TExas
Matthew plans to return to a rural area to practice veterinary medicine after graduation next May. His ultimate goal is to buy his own practice. In addition to working at a clinic, Matthew spends time at an auction barn and feedlot to gain knowledge about the various levels of agricultural production.
