Charlie White and Sharna Burgess await the judges’ scores with host Tom Bergeron after a lights-out cha-cha performance.
Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy receive praise from the judges after their sultry tango to Calvin Harris’ “Feel So Close.”
Davis and White advance to ‘Dancing’ semifinals Olympic ice dance champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White proved they could dom-
inate the dance floor as successfully as they owned the ice, advancing to the semifinals on the 18th season of ABC’s hit show “Dancing with the Stars.” Much like their rivalry with 2010 Olympic champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir of
Canada, Davis and White have taken turns atop the judges’ leaderboard, each receiving per- fect scores from all four judges during the show’s run. In what began as a field of 12 contestants, only five couples advanced to the show’s
semifinal round after celebrities were eliminated week after week. Joining Davis and White in the homestretch for the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy are actress Candace Cameron Bure, actor/singer James Maslow and Paralympic snowboarder Amy Purdy.
Castelli and Shnapir end partnership Two-time and reigning U.S. pairs champions Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir an-
nounced in May that they have ended their partnership. Castelli and Shnapir, who trained in Boston under coaches Bobby Martin and Carrie
Wall, began their partnership nine years ago. Castelli and Shnapir finished ninth at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games and were Team Event bronze medalists at the Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. They are the 2013 Four Continents bronze medalists and 2009 World Junior bronze medalists. “I am so honored and proud to have shared the ice with Simon for the last eight years,”
Castelli said. “It has been an amazing journey and I wouldn’t change it for the world. We will always share our amazing accomplishments with each other. I appreciate everything Simon has done for me and wish him the best in his future en- deavors. I will continue skating and hope to be back performing in front of a crowd soon. Thank you to ev- eryone who has supported us through the years.” “I am very proud of the accomplishments Maris-
sa and I have had over the past eight years,” Shnapir said. “I wish Marissa the best of luck with her future as
I look forward to starting this new chapter in my skat- ing career. I want to thank all of my family, coaches, friends and fans as well as U.S. Figure Skating and
The Skating Club of Boston for their incredible support.”
