The town commissioned the creation of a huge beaver holding a cow chip in the ‘70s. Named ‘Big Beaver,’ the mascot’s home is on the town’s main street. People passing through enjoy stopping to take photos with him. “We have the largest beaver in the state of

Oklahoma,” said Laurie Anderson, a Beaver native and member of TCEC. “It really takes people with roots here to carry on the tradi- tion of the Cow Chip Throw.” Anderson works at Howard Drilling in Beaver where April Jamison, another Beaver native and active community member works. “A lot of people return to the community for the throw,” said Jamison, a TCEC mem- ber. “It’s like a reunion.” Whether a person goes to toss chips or

not, Easter weekend offers plenty to do in Beaver this year. The Cow Chip Throw will take place at the Beaver County Fairgrounds on Saturday, April 19. The fee is $20 for in- dividuals and $70 for a team of four. Entry forms can be found online at www.beaver- chamber.com.

The weeklong Cimarron Territory

Celebration kicks off April 12 with a chili cook-off and ends April 20 with a golf tour- nament. Other weekend events include a color run, laser tag and a Susie McEntire concert. Susie is Reba McEntire’s sister. TCEC Service Technician Bill Greenfi eld lives in Beaver and volunteers every year to help organize the annual chili cook-off. The cook-off is a major fundraiser for Beaver County Emergency Medical Services. He also helped to organize the Cimarron Territory Celebration and Cow Chip Throw for many years as a director and past presi- dent of the Beaver County Chamber of Commerce. “Beaver is my home,” Greenfi eld said. “I love this town and the people here. Everyone should come see us and chunk a chip.”
