Ozarks Electric Refunds $1.5 Million In Capital Credits

Ozarks Electric is locally owned and operated. As an electric cooperative, we are focused on our members’ needs and local priorities. We are very involved in the communities we serve. Co-ops offer stability, reliability and better value. Our goal is to be accessible and help our members achieve a better quality of life.

Because you get your electricity from Ozarks Electric, you are a cooperative member. This entitles you to a share of the Cooperative’s margins. Like most well-run businesses, an electric cooperative’s annual revenue generally exceeds its expenses. Unlike other businesses or utilities that you may do business with, Ozarks Electric’s excess revenue (called margins) is allocated each year to its members on the basis of the amount of power purchased from the Cooperative during the previous year. We call these allocated margins “capital credits.”

Powering Our Future Through The Electric Vehicle Program

Eight years ago, Ozarks Electric began sponsoring the Electric Vehicle (EV) Program in our area schools. Today the program has grown to seven teams that compete at a statewide EV Rally each spring. Ozarks Electric provides the schools with a car kit, which is used to teach students skills in mathematics, physics and engineering, while letting them build an EV that they can actually drive.

This year’s EV Rally will take place in Little Rock on Friday, April 25 at the state fairgrounds. Our teams will participate in seven events, where they will showcase the skills they have learned throughout the school year. Different areas of the competition include; autocross, acceleration and endurance challenges as well as video, quiz bowl and troubleshooting events.

Last year our teams brought home a combined 10 trophies - first place in the acceleration, video, autocross, quiz bowl and endurance events, two second place trophies and three third place finishes. Our teams have continued to improve over the years and we are looking forward to another successful rally this year.

Allocated capital credits are recorded on permanent financial records and reflect your equity in Ozarks Electric Cooperative. Our Board of Directors annually evaluates the financial health of the Cooperative and declares the amount of capital credits to be refunded to cooperative members. This year we will be sending checks amounting to $1.5 million for payment of a portion of 2013 and 1992 capital credits to our members. This brings the total capital credits paid to $39.4 million.

Our local presence is one of our strongest assets and the payment of capital credits is tangible evidence that the Cooperative is at work for our members, making sound business decisions for the good of the membership and the corporation. Locally controlled electric service demonstrates the direct link that Ozarks Electric has with our members and the community. You work hard and so do we—to keep your electric rates among the lowest in the nation and to keep our service levels high.

Using Our Postage-Paid Envelopes

We provide you with a postage paid envelope to conveniently pay your electric bill by mail. The postal bar code underneath the window, where our address shows, is specific to Ozarks Electric. Mail sent in the buff–colored envelope, no matter what address is put on it, will be sent to Ozarks Electric for processing at the Post Office.

The mail is scanned by machine and anything sent in our business reply envelope will only go to us. Using the envelopes for other bill payments will delay the receipt of the mail to any other person or business.
