Rounding Up Money for College Operation Roundup scholarships available for teens

Co-op members who contribute to Kiamichi Electric’s Operation Roundup program help support many worthwhile organizations in the area. They also help local teens attend college.

Every year the Operation Roundup board of trustees awards thousands of dollars in college scholarships to qualified applicants from Kiamichi Electric service territory. Winners are selected based on financial need, scholastic achievement, leadership and extra curricular activities. Winners must be members of Kiamichi Electric or live with a Kiamichi Electric member.

Operation Roundup is currently accepting scholarship applications for the 2014-2015 school year . The deadline to apply is May 1, 2014.

This year, two scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors with financial needs. Two additional scholarships will be given to third or fourth year college students who attend college in southeast Oklahoma.

If your teen could use financial help to attend college, please encourage them to apply. You’ll find scholarship details and applications forms at www.kiamichielectric.org.

and it won't cost you a penny. YouthPower Energy Camp is sponsored every summer by Oklahoma's electric cooperatives. The annual co-op camp welcomes eighth grade students from across the state for three days of fun, and some learning, too.

Teens who attend Energy Camp participate in games and activities designed to stimulate leadership potential and increase team-building skills. By organizing their own co-op, campers gain an understanding of co-op principles such as democratic control, member participation and cooperation. They also get a taste for how co-ops work by touring a powerplant and taking a few safety lessons from electric co-op linemen.

Kiamichi Electric will sponsor two teens to attend Energy Camp this year. The camp takes place May 27-30 at Canyon Camp
