Franchise Focus

this is why Caremark is careful to select the right franchisees for the network and then provide them with the best possible training and support. Caremark is privileged to currently be the only social care provider verified by the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM), ensuring the training they provide is of the highest standard. Trainer Lynda Goldsmith is dedicated to the sector and is passionate about the Caremark model and how it works for the franchisee and the carers. Lynda has been working in partnership with Karen Hoskins from Essex Chamber of Commerce to develop accredited training for the network. Karen says: “Essex Chambers of Commerce have been working with Caremark over the past year. It’s been a privilege to work with an organisation with such high standards, and with such a visible commitment to excellence.” Following a comprehensive two-week training course, franchisees can move forward into the development of their exclusive territory with the support of their regional support manager (RSM). The ratio of RSM to franchisees is exemplary within the Caremark family, at 15 franchisees to one RSM. Caremark have recently employed two new RSMs to meet the needs of their growing network, allowing them the time to visit franchisees monthly in order to guide, support and mentor through the challenges of running a new business, whilst always being at the end of the phone should support be needed.

The office support team are there to

research and develop the model, to ensure it remains compliant and can meet the changing needs of the sector. Caremark franchisees value this model and the impact it has on the growth of their business. Richard and Emily Magrath of Caremark North Down, Ards and Belfast recently commented: “We are enjoying the challenge of building a business in this sector. We are also enjoying implementing the Caremark process and seeing the rewards of following a great system backed up by a great care and support team.”

“The care industry is about people – both managing a team and delivering a service to vulnerable clients – and is much more than simply owning a multi- million-pound business”

Caremark’s franchisees come from many walks of life – it is their drive and ambition to build a business of value that makes them viable candidates. One such franchisee is Janis Anderson who, following a long and successful career in the world of

finance, wanted a role that allowed a better work-life balance. Janis joined Caremark in September 2009 and her long-term vision, belief in the Caremark system and the value she places in her staff saw her awarded the accolades of bfa HSBC Franchisee of the Year 2013 as well as bfa HSBC Female Franchisee of the Year 2013. Following the gala dinner and award

ceremony, Janis stated: “It’s brilliant to be recognised for all the hard work that contributes towards Caremark’s success, especially at such a prestigious awards ceremony. I became a Caremark franchisee at a challenging time when cuts were being introduced but this spurred me on to drive the business forward and we have since grown from strength to strength. At Caremark, we pride ourselves on our staff and the team excels at ensuring only the best level of service is provided for all of those we look after. I’m thrilled this effort has been rewarded and excited for what the future has in store.” From an investor’s point of view, buying into a reputable brand is vital. A successful network will demonstrate this reputability by indicating that the company operates within a culture of honesty and transparency. n
