>>>Professional Development p44 So much more than an exhibition New features and attractions added as ISE 2014 continues to set the agenda for the industry in Amsterdam

A WEALTH of new events, features and attractions, both on and off the showfloor, is promised at ISE 2014 – in many cases extending beyond the three-day span of the exhibition.

On Monday 3 February, the Smart Building Conference returns to the Amsterdam RAI after its successful launch a year ago – and a second event in London last October. The conference will explore the opportunities afforded by the smart building market in both commercial and residential buildings, and foster co-operation and understanding between the AV integrator community and other stakeholders in the built environment. (Turn to page 16 for our preview.)

Smart buildings also have relevance to the Opening Keynote

Address of ISE 2014, which takes place at 6:00pm on the Monday. Dr Dirk Schlesinger, global lead for manufacturing industries at Cisco Consulting Services will give an exclusive insight into a new cross- industry initiative involving Cisco,

“The initiatives we

are putting in place... will do even more to make this year's show absolutely unmissable”

ABB, Bosch and LG, which offers a common standard for data exchange across multiple appliances and disciplines. (Find out more on page 15.) Also on the Monday is

AudioForum, a conference

organised by Italian publication Connessioni. Building on the success of a recent event in Milan, the conference will explore the world of audio transport protocols – featuring presentations by technology experts and practitioners. (We preview AudioForum on page 22.) Another new conference at ISE 2014 is the Sport Facility Integration Summit, which takes place on the afternoon of Wednesday 5 February. Organised by SVG Europe – the European arm of The Sports Video Group is a trade association devoted to the creation, production and distribution of sports content – the Summit will look at the technologies and trends related to AV integration in sports facilities. Through panel sessions and case study presentations, the event will explore what makes the difference between a good fan experience and a great one. (The SFIS is previewed on page 38.) Two new features of ISE 2014

address less technologically based issues – finance and distribution. Investor Showcase (see page 20) is an invitation-only event that gives manufacturers the opportunity to pitch their businesses to private equity companies and other potential sources of funding. M2D (Manufacturers to Distributors), meanwhile, will use digital signage in high-traffic areas of the Amsterdam RAI to highlight

exhibitors that are looking for new distribution partners in particular territories (see page 36). Professional Development has a new focus at ISE this year, with InfoComm International – one of the two industry associations behind ISE – launching a new voucher scheme for its education sessions. Everyone attending the show will receive vouchers to attend two sessions free of charge, and further vouchers may be purchased at affordable rates. CEDIA, ISE’s other industry association owner, alongside its roster of education sessions, is also running THX calibration training from Thursday 6 to Saturday 8 February in Amsterdam. (Our Professional Development listings begin on page 44.) In addition,

manufacturers are presenting a range of informative seminars in two ISE Theatres, located on the showfloor. As you can read on page 41, these have been designed to stimulate the creativity of attendees by making them consider some emerging AV technologies. “Our bigger-than-ever showfloor and record number of exhibitors will themselves make ISE 2014 unique,” said Mike Blackman, managing director, Integrated Systems Events. “But our renewed emphasis on Professional Development, our extended pre-show programme and the initiatives we are putting in place to enhance the visitor experience will do even more to make this year's show absolutely unmissable.”
