Review The Bells Of Peover Nicola Borrows visits Te Bells of Peover in Knutsford to sample fine country dining

H

aving a pleasant drive through the heart of the Cheshire countryside my partner and I approached our destination in Lower Peover,

Knutsford. Tucked away down a cobbled lane amidst the trees, Te Bells of Peover restaurant beckoned us to come in with its magical surroundings. It felt as though we had entered a fairytale as we drove into the courtyard and were greeted by a quaint, beautiful garden and graceful water feature. At the door was a charming patio with outdoor seating which faced a small chapel and we noted how perfect it would be for a wedding. Te trees surrounding the front door provided an exquisite entrance and were something truly unique. As we entered we were greeted by our waitress

for the evening and were introduced to the restaurant’s general manager Andre Sievers

who also has accolades of working for hotels in London, Hamburg and also in the legendary Chester Grosvenor Hotel. Welcoming us warmly we were taken to our seats in a homely booth at the back of the restaurant. After promptly receiving our drinks we were guided through the menu. I opted for the duck egg with asparagus for starters which included a variety of other fresh vegetables of the season and made for a lovely light bite before the main course. My partner chose the beautiful beef Carpaccio which was presented with the panache of a five star restaurant with the taste to go along with it. Te mains however were truly exquisite. For this I ordered the succulent duck breast with sautéed potatoes and baby spinach which was accompanied by summer greens. My partner opted for the wonderfully fresh paella dish which contained lovely fresh shellfish. Toroughly enjoying our first two courses

we were swayed into ordering a dessert from the varied menu. Te fruit and custard tart contained an unusual assortment of berries and exotic fruit including fresh dragon fruit with tropical compote glazing its surface. My partner ordered the Bells’ milk chocolate bar which we learned was a firm favourite of regulars. With a hazelnut praline and salted caramel filled centre, the Bells’ milk chocolate bar is served with a scoop of freshly made vanilla ice cream - a perfect accompaniment. We were very kindly served homemade caramel shortbread bites and handmade sugar coated fresh fruit pastilles

which acted as a perfect palette cleanser as well as showcasing the talent of the chefs. Te caramel shortbread was fantastic with the latte I had ordered to finish off the meal and the pastilles were soft and bursting with flavour. Overall our experience here was wonderfully

calm and relaxing and we both agreed we would definitely revisit to try some of the new dishes on offer. What is certain here is that the managing team here have created a one-of-a-kind dining experience as fine-dining meets the cosy atmosphere of a pub. With an array of unusual fresh ingredients, the menu is seasonal and changes quite often to offer regulars and first-timers alike a different dining experience. Although Te Bells of Peover does cater for weddings, including the offering of a completely customisable menu, these events are only conducted once a month, so a first come first served basis is a must when considering booking this venue.
