Sintered porous materials for medical applications
Porvair Filtration Group’s regulatory approved BioVyon are used for in vitro filtration, separation, venting and wicking applications in the medical, pharmaceutical and life science industries. Through a combination of new material developments, including composites and surface modified structures, and working in partnership
with OEM and end user customers, Porvair is able to achieve optimum design and regulatory approval. Recent developments have included
nasal spray filters, drug delivery filters and catheter vents. Manufactured in ISO-accredited cleanrooms, BioVyon materials exhibit low particle shedding, low extractables and low bioburden.
Porvair’s Chromatrap product, a
novel chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assay, utilises BioVyon material to which Protein A or Protein G has been chemically bound. The Chromatrap solid phase porous
structure captures antibody-tagged DNA-protein complexes associated with cancers. This technology is paving the
way in the quest for targeted cancer treatments and personalised medicines. Meanwhile, Porvair Sciences has
introduced the Co-Mix, a multi-format mixer. Operated via a touchscreen, the Co-Mix offers easy changing between mixing of 96- and 384-well microplates in skirted, semi-skirted and unskirted variants, plus deep-well plates and PCR tubes/strips. A plate holding mechanism ensures smooth manipulation of microplates eliminating sample spillage and cross- contamination problems.. The Co-Mix comes pre-programmed
with commonly used mixing profiles. As new applications arise the instrument enables users to add and save new mixing protocols. Applications that will benefit from
the Co-Mix include mixing of PCR and enzyme preparations.
