Reach more markets

Makita believes that its expanding range can enable hirers to benefit from additional business opportunities.

Makita (UK) continues to introduce more products to its portfolio, designed to meet the needs of more users in various markets, including landscapers, construction professionals and other tradesmen, extending the potential customer base for hirers to target.

“Some of our latest developments result from the wider incorporation of our MM4 Mini 4-stroke engines, designed to give more torque than their 2-stroke counterparts, while dramatically reducing exhaust emissions, fuel consumption, noise and vibration,” said Marketing Manager Kevin Brannigan. “For example, the heavy-duty and cost-effective performance it gives on our recently introduced 43cc EM4351UH brush cutter is arousing interest from several of the larger grounds care contractors, and they appreciate the fact that there is no need for mixing fuel and oil. We recently held a hands-on demonstration day for our latest Outdoor Power Equipment (OPE), at Ragley Hall in Warwickshire, demonstrating our grounds maintenance, landscaping and forestry products and it was attended by many such end users who are looking closely at products that can help them achieve greener and more efficient working.”

Makita reports growing interest in its EM4351UH brush cutter.

Other products incorporating the MM4 engine include the new EBH252U 24.5cc grass trimmer and several 1in petrol powered pumps, including the 24.5cc EW1050HX, the 33.5cc EW1060HX model, and the high-pressure 33.5cc EPH1000, all designed for use in landscaping and construction applications.

Additional grounds care and forestry equipment launches include the DUR182LZ, an 18V line trimmer powered by Lithium-ion batteries, and three 2-stroke chainsaws that are designed for low weight and are available with a 35cm bar length with tool-free chain tensioning, or in 35cm and 40cm bar lengths with traditional lateral tensioning.

Interestingly, the manufacturer is extending its Be Safe campaign, which has already highlighted safe tool operation and appropriate product selection amongst construction students, and will now be targeted at those on land and environment-based courses at colleges throughout the UK. The initiative includes theoretical and

demand when people look to hire tools later in their careers.

Turning to products aimed at construction professionals, the latest launches include Makita’s cordless 4.0Ah battery system, a range of cordless caulking guns and a selection of heated work jackets, all powered by Lithium-ion batteries. A new 240V paddle mixer, the UT120, is also available. Until the end of December, Makita is offering a free 3-year service plan with each purchase of an EK6100 12in 2-stroke cut-off saw, which was launched at this year’s Executive Hire Show, and has a low-emission ‘stratified air scavenging’ engine. “This incentive is something that hirers could really benefit from. We will service the machine annually, replacing as required any of the listed components at no cost, and we estimate this could ultimately save more than £500 in parts and labour over the three years.

“Looking forward to this February’s Show, we took on board the statement made during the Kick-Off Meeting at the Ricoh Arena in September, urging exhibitors to pro-actively invite hirers to visit their stands. We will be contacting hirers to encourage them to attend, and we are planning some special Show-only deals they can take advantage of. We will be introducing an updated version of our Solutions package of Health & Safety advice, covering HAV, dust and noise, which hirers can offer to contractors to help manage workplace risks. Also, January is a month when Makita traditionally introduces more of its latest equipment, and there are several new tools that are bound to appeal to Show visitors.”
