CPA searches for Stars Powerful Atlas Copco Cobra
Atlas Copco says that a comparative test supervised by the independent TÜV Nord institution showed that its Cobra Pro petrol powered breaker outperformed even the manufacturer’s claims in terms of HAV and impact energy, and enabled greater productivity than two competitor petrol and electric models. Three tests were undertaken, including a tri-axial vibration measurement on a Dynaload energy absorber, a real-life tri-axial HAV test on concrete performed by three operators, and a real-life impact energy measurement. Results showed an HAV reading of 3.8m/s2
on the Dynaload and 5.8m/s2 in real-life
testing, delivering 61 Joules of impact energy and 1470W output at the chisel. The Cobra is also designed to give low levels of emissions and noise.
CPA has launched its 2014 Search for the Stars initiative, which recognises the achievements of young people training to become plant mechanics. Entry is open to apprentices on courses at Level 2 and Level 3 at colleges throughout the country. The Awards will be presented on the first day of the Vertikal Days lifting event at Haydock Park, being held on 14 and 15 May. 20 regional winners will be announced, together with two overall national winners. Prizes include vouchers for high-quality tools that they will be able to use throughout their careers.
Husqvarna saw impresses CEH
Construction Equipment Hire (CEH) of Maidstone reports that it has been highly impressed by Husqvarna’s K760 disc cutter with Oil Guard protection, having added 20 to its fleet. The hirer had
previously offered the standard K760 model but, despite always sending the machine out with plenty of oil, as well as ready mixed fuel, it still found some customers were putting neat petrol into the machines, causing the engines to seize. Simon Read of CEH said, “Once we were shown the K760 Oil Guard we knew it was a no-brainer. It protects our investment, and the ROI is a lot greater than standard two-stroke cutters as it’s never in the workshop for major repairs.” The Oil Guard system identifies the presence of two-stroke oil in the fuel, and if none is detected, then the machine automatically shuts down to idle, alerting the operator.
