Using an AED
“Shock Advised” If a shock is indicated: - Ensure that nobody touches the casualty - Shout “Stand Clear” - Push the flashing shock button to deliver the life saving shock of electricity. If you are operating a fully-automatic AED it will count down and deliver the shock automatically (there is no shock button to press) - Continue as directed by the voice / visual prompts from the AED and continue delivering CPR - Minimise, as far as possible, interruptions in chest compressions
“No Shock Advised” If no shock is indicated: - Resume CPR immediately using a ratio of 30 compressions to 2 rescue breaths. - Continue as directed by the voice / visual prompts from the AED
Step 6. Continue with CPR for two minutes.
Step 7. After two minutes the AED will re-analyse the child’s heart rhythm to see if a shock needs to be delivered or not.
Continue to follow the sequence of two minutes of CPR then analysis until: - Qualified help arrives and takes over - The child starts to show signs of regaining consciousness, such as coughing, opening his eyes, speaking, or moving purposefully AND starts to breathe normally - You become too exhausted to carry on
