Basic Life Support Stomach and Hips
Step 1. Gently feel the stomach area looking for pain or discomfort.
Step 2. Do the same with the hips (but do not rock them) whilst looking for signs of bleeding or incontinence.
Arms
Step 1. Run your hands along each arm feeling and looking for lumps, bumps, irregularity and deformity.
Step 2. If the casualty can move their arms, hands and fingers, ask them to do so. Check the fingertips for signs of cyanosis.
Legs
Step 1. Run your hands along each leg feeling and looking for lumps, bumps, irregularity and deformity.
Step 2. If the casualty can move their legs, feet and toes, ask them to do so. If possible check the toes for signs of cyanosis.
Medical Clues
Your casualty may have some additional clues hidden around their body which may help you ascertain what is wrong with them. Pockets Be aware of needles! Check inside for ID or medication. Medication Inhalers, Epipens or GTN sprays. Medic Alert Bracelets Inscribed with any medical conditions the casualty may suffer from such as anaphylaxis, epilepsy, or diabetes.
