Ahead of James Martin’s new restaurant opening in Manchester, Hayley Leaver caught up with the celebrity chef
Manchester on Tursday, 26th September. Building on his cookbook success, the new restaurant will bring a generous helping of modern British fare to the city’s popular gaming destination. James Martin said: “Over the last few months, there has been a definitive shift in Manchester’s restaurant scene and I can’t wait to be able to add James Martin Manchester into the mix. “Te UK has amazing restaurants that match
T
any other country and Manchester is one of its leading places. It’s an exciting place to be, as exciting as London, and lots of great chefs are looking to open restaurants here. I’ve always been keen to have a restaurant presence in the city and my relationship with Caesars Entertainment UK gives me the perfect platform to do this.” James Martin Manchester will be Martin’s second collaboration with Caesars Entertainment UK. He had run an acclaimed venture, Te Leeds Kitchen, until the casino it was based in closed earlier this year. Prior to this, in only its first year of business, the restaurant picked up a ‘Best Service’ and ‘Best Newcomer’ award at the prestigious Oliver Awards. Martin adds: “We worked fantastically well

together in Leeds. Te Leeds Kitchen was very successful and achieved great things, and we will achieve even greater things in Manchester.” Justin Carter, Venue Director at Manchester235, added: “Our philosophy at Manchester235 is to create a destination entertainment venue with great bars, restaurants and entertainment alongside the gaming. Caesars Entertainment, who owns Manchester235, has a number of established celebrity relationships in the US, and we are bringing that concept to the UK. “We are extremely excited to welcome James to the Manchester235 casino. A chef of his talent and profile is exactly what we envisaged for the restaurant moving forward and will add to our already dynamic entertainment offering.” Open 24 hours a day, Manchester235 prides itself on providing the city with a complete entertainment destination. In addition to multiple floors of gaming facilities, including Poker, Blackjack, Roulette, Slots and Punto Banco, there is also a multi-use private event suite and a bespoke cocktail bar. Icon, a private bar for invited VIPs only, also features a salon privé offering Blackjack and Roulette tables. Despite its location in the Great Northern
Warehouse, this Vegas-style casino is renowned for its lavish décor and authentic atmosphere – something that Martin hopes his latest project, which will be set away from the casino floor, will only serve to enhance. “James Martin Manchester will offer casual dining in a great atmosphere, with a buzzy bar and great food. It will be much bigger and more vibrant than my other restaurants,” he said. “My team and I are involved in every stage of its planning, from interviewing the restaurant
team to choosing the wallpaper, pictures and even candles. Te kitchen and front of house will represent my high standards and quality. Tey will be trained and supported by us throughout the year and I will be at the restaurant as much as possible. Some of the team have even been to my house for training.” Drawing on his love of great British produce, the menu will showcase Martin’s signature modern British style, being big on flavour and uncontrived in its simplicity. In keeping with Martin’s own restaurant - Te Talbot Hotel in his hometown of Malton, Yorkshire - James Martin Manchester will give top billing to locally sourced, seasonal ingredients, making the most of the area’s butchers, fishmongers, farmers and cheesemakers. “I’m currently working on the menus, with our main focus on modern British cuisine,” said Martin. “I’m looking forward to unveiling some of our key dishes very soon! “People now understand food and where it
comes from so much more, forcing us to up our game. It will be a no frills British menu influenced by my food heroes. Te focus will be on the produce – and while it will be served simply it will taste fantastic.”
