Travel
we enjoyed a Maldivian meal of fresh BBQ lobster and steak. My partner greedily agreed to some banana fritters despite already being full! Tere was also a wide choice of vegetarian dishes available as sides and lunch menus can be taken with the options of a full buffet or poolside goodies such as club sandwiches, freshly made pasta or beef briquette. We are invited for cocktails with our host Agung to watch the sunset at the Edge Bar and Restaurant which is just a five minute boat ride away. At 5.45pm the resort launch collected us at the jetty and we sped off into the sunset. Set out a little way from the island the bar rises up out of the ocean like a scene from a James Bond film. Te open circular pavilion is the perfect setting for cocktails and watching the sun set. With Niyama’s signature chilli mojito on its way we took the opportunity to get our cameras out and take some beautiful sunset shots. Yet Niyama still had a surprise in store for us with its underwater club Subsix. With the club being six meters below the surface of the water entering the club is a real wow factor of the resort. We ventured down a flight of stairs to the stunning club which opened up to a circular underwater cavern. Te glassed windows surrounding the club immersed us with marine life, a sight like no other. We are told that the corals have been planted to attract sea life and that’s exactly
what had been achieved. An underwater multi colour spectacular, with cocktails in hand we chilled out and searched for Nemo! Te club is open till late and offers a unique clubbing experience. As night falls we head back to the Edge Bar and the lights from Subsix are flashing underwater like a submerged UFO. After some relaxing cocktails we were guided over to the Tribal Restaurant where the infusion
options there is something for everyone. My lobster ceviche with chilli fruit main course was particularly divine. Arrays of desserts were available but I opted for the camp apple pie which was delicious. Well rested and satisfied from our delicious meal at Tribal, the next day I paid a visit to the Niyama Lime Spa. Here I was treated to a signature Niyama massage worth $180 for an hour and a half’s worth of heaven. With eight spa rooms and an arrangement of all natural skin products I left with my skin feeling fresh and invigorated. Our days were filled with sunshine and
of South African, South American and Asian cuisine offered an almost endless array of meal choices for us. Walking underneath the large gazebo we were taken to our seats underneath an authentic South African structure for a romantic candlelit meal. As the camp fires blazed my partner enjoyed culinary delights from the grill including South African sausage. With a choice of different meats and vegetarian
relaxing on our private sun loungers in front of our studio or by the infinity pool. Te General Manager Nigel Pace and the rest of the Niyama team were always on hand for our every need. Other facilities include a cinema room for private hire, a virtual golf simulator and a games studio for small and big kids alike. For more active holiday goers there are a host of different activities to take part in, such as jet skiing, wind surfing, canoeing, deep sea fishing classes, gym facilities, scuba diving and snorkelling. We enjoyed our relaxing stay at the Niyama Resort and whilst it is one of the newest in the Maldives it certainly does not disappoint, providing luxury accommodation, fabulous bathrooms, established landscape, plenty of entertainment and great food.
