time at Kurumba was spent in a Garden Pool Villa that included our own private plunge pool as well as all the usual home comforts and those that are a little more luxurious- from a Lavazza coffee machine to a ‘make your own cocktail’ bar. As well as having a private courtyard our
room included an indoor and an outdoor shower, and with the furnishings reflecting the surrounding tropical gardens, it really was the perfect place to relax. All the rooms include air conditioning, double/twin beds (with the larger rooms having king size), flat screen TV, bath robes and double vanity mirrors. Te Royal Kurumba Residence, the most luxurious of the rooms offers private pools and Jacuzzis in both wings as well as a private butler available to cater for your needs 24 hours a day. Te Royal Residence also offers guests the best spot on the island to watch the incredible sunrise and sunset. Kurumba is foremost a family island and the variety of restaurants offers families and couples plenty of choice. Home to nine restaurants, visitors can enjoy sushi and sashimi in the Hamakaze to Lebanese style food in the Al Qasr - Kurumba’s version of Arabian Nights. Tere really is every type of food available on this island and to be sure we were able to enjoy all the culinary delights we chose one of the dining packages that allowed us to try all the resort’s restaurants. All of the restaurants offered exceptional food and it was well above our expectations just as the Ocean Grill was which serves local seafood to die for and steaks which my partner said was one of the best he’d ever sampled. However our favourite was the Kurumba Mahal that served fine Indian cuisine. I chose to have the Murgh Malai Keba - boneless chicken marinated with cashew nuts and cream and my partner had the Lobster Changazi - whole lobster tail cooked in mild spices served with infused rice. One of the chefs, who was from India himself, told us all the herbs are home grown on the island and are an important part of each dish. Local wines and beers are available with every meal as well as exotic cocktails. Evening entertainment comes in the form of local dancing to bands and DJs and it truly shows the Kurumba way of life. Everyone can get as involved as they want but what all guests take away with them is the real family feel that this island creates. By day guests had numerous activities to
choose from including two swimming pools, a gym, tennis courts, yoga, a library and beach volleyball. Te whole family can be entertained on this island with excursions and boat cruises leaving from the island daily. Tere were the usual cruises such as dolphin and sunset cruises as well as something a bit more unique like sea
plane fishing and wake boarding. We opted for a snorkelling excursion to enable us to witness the beautiful reefs surrounding the island. Tis is something we would highly recommend. For those who want to relax and unwind,
Te Veli Spa offers a fine blend of tradition and simplicity to create a peaceful get away. Set over water alleyways, we opted for the couple’s signature Kurumba treatment using natural coconut oils that help to restore the body’s equilibrium and experience the utmost tranquillity. We started our treatment with a traditional foot ritual to prepare us for the relaxing massage journey ahead. For something a bit different, guests can opt for ‘Spa Under Te Stars’ which offers a full body massage, a head massage and finishes off with champagne and chocolate dipped fruit. Prices are reasonable depending on your
choice of treatments. Te longer the treatment the more you are looking to pay but it is well worth a visit. Kurumba is the perfect choice for a family holiday to the Maldives. With plenty to offer all age groups, families can choose to do as much or as little as possible during their stay on this paradise island. Te breath-taking location speaks for itself and the friendliness of the islands staff together with the numerous island activities makes Kurumba an island that will stay with you for a long time!
