Family Law
absolutely fantastic support, by the way of IT or business development or just generally. I feel the firm has a particular unique, lean and nimble business model which can respond to the market and the client’s needs because it responds so quickly to market conditions and is very entrepreneurial. I’m confident that I’m going to build a happy successful team.” Pauline, who is currently learning Spanish to use on her frequent holidays to Spain, says family law throws up its own unique challenges which can make the job all the more rewarding with resolution. She said: “When you first meet a client and they’re at their most distressed and concerned stage in their lives, the most enjoyable aspect is helping them and identifying what’s concerning them most and then helping them to reach a conclusion to get them through that really difficult time. It’s upsetting to see people in a distressed state and you can appreciate
that domestic violence cases can be quite distressing. I’ve found that recently there’s actually an increase in male domestic violence victims and I also found psychological abuse of one of the parties quite upsetting. But then it’s about helping them to get through that and getting a result for them.” Pauline says it is matters relating to children that are almost always of primary concern to clients. “All clients want to minimise any risk of pain for their children so we have to minimise any upset or distress for them,” she said. “If clients aren’t emotionally ready, I will quite often recommend counselling or mediation to help them get to the next stage, because supporting the client is about identifying where they are emotionally and how best I can assist them with that.” Pauline proudly states that she and the firm are always entirely transparent when it comes
to legal fees and that she always seeks to build strong relationships with clients to help achieve their objectives. She added: “I think the most important thing is that I deliver on what I have promised at the outset. I have to make sure that we help the clients get to the particular goals that we set together. It’s very important to me that they trust me and it is a collaborative process throughout. I am there to support them.”
