OMUK director Mark Estdale tells MCV about the firm’s work on some of this year’s biggest titles

Tell us about your company for those who are unfamiliar with your services.

OMUK is known as the UK’s most experienced dialogue production company working within games. We’ve been doing the magic since 1996 and have hundreds of titles to our credit including classics like Timesplitters 2, Wipeout, The Witcher and Pro Evolution Soccer. We work with publishers and developers worldwide and specialise in immersive context- driven recording.

Which of the firm’s successes has been the biggest this year? My favourite title of the year was casting and recording the ground- breaking Sony hit Wonderbook: Diggs Nightcrawler. That and winning the contract to produce the voice content for Broken Sword 5: The Serpents Curse.

What do you hope to achieve in 2013? We’re developing a suite of audio software tools called Creative Dialogue Tools. Elements of the suite are being enjoyed by Sony and Jagex but we enjoy demonstrating their power in the studio as it’s a pretty jaw- dropping experience. Getting the word out and getting more people to experience the difference is top of the 2013 goals.

Do you have any exciting developments in the works? We actively sponsor and support work that pushes the creative boundaries of positive play and life-affirming gaming.

We’ve been doing the magic since 1996 and have hundreds of titles to our credit.

We’re looking for development partners that are gnawing that particular bone. We’re simply passionate about engaging human drama and humour, and we yearn for more of it in game design.

Tell us something no one knows about your company. We like swords and coffee. Anyone who has visited the London studios will vouch for the armoury and aroma. But what is less widely known is that we import and roast our own coffee at the studio as a daily ritual.
