Milwaukee The City of Festivals is full of surprises
Many may not know that Milwaukee, despite its Midwest location, is quite the water des- tination. The city not only overlooks Lake Michigan, but sits at the confluence of three rivers — the Milwaukee, Menomonee, and Kinnickinnic. In fact, Outside magazine named Milwaukee one of the best river towns in the country. This unique setting gives many of Milwaukee’s more unusual, off-site venues an extra edge, like the Santiago Cala- trava–designed Milwaukee Art Museum and Discovery World, both of which offer prime views of Lake Michigan. Meeting planners looking for some- thing a little more ofbeat have a number
of only-in-Milwaukee venues to choose from, including the world’s only Harley- Davidson Museum. Chronicling the history of the American legend with a collection of 450 motorcycles, historical exhibits, and a virtual-ride room, the museum offers event spaces that can accommodate up to 1,000 guests indoors and up to 15,000 outdoors. At Potawatomi Bingo Casino, which offers every type of gaming from slots to poker, a variety of meeting and banquet spaces reflect the rich Potawatomi culture. Along with the Woodland Dreams Ballroom, the casino’s 30,000-square-foot Expo Center has been designed to accommodate trade
shows, corporate seminars, and receptions. The casino is also currently constructing a $150-million hotel, expected to open in 2014 with 381 rooms, a full-service spa, and a casual-dining restaurant. And planners will hit a surefire home run with attendees just by booking Miller Park, home of the Milwaukee Brewers and consistently voted one of the top ballparks in the nation.
