PCMA Enhances CSAE Conference

Following last year’s successful part- nership, PCMA once again will work with the Canadian Society of Associa- tion Executives (CSAE) to power its meetings-related education during the 2013 CSAE National Conference & Showcase, Sept. 18–20, in Winnipeg. While the schedule for the event, which welcomes roughly 500 attendees annu- ally, is still being finalized, PCMA’s ses- sions are expected to include: “Engage Hearts and Minds With Brain-Friendly Meetings”; “Contracts, Negotiations, and What’s Open to Change”; “Improve Your Learning Environments Today”; and “Keep the Lawyers Out! Managing Your Convention Center Contracts.” For more information on CSAE’s

conference or to register, visit csae.com. CHAPTER CORNER Ethically Speaking

There’s a fine line between cheating and games- manship, whether it be on the football field or in the boardroom. Learning how not to cross that line can lead to more wins than losses, in both the sports and business worlds, according to motiva- tional speaker and sports author Ross Bernstein. The PCMA Pacific Northwest Chapter invited Bernstein to speak about lessons in ethics and accountability in business — by drawing parallels from inspirational stories in sports — on June 19, at the Space Needle in Seattle. Sarah Watrous, chapter administrator for the

Pacific Northwest, was keen on Bernstein because she found his topic “very interesting — a little dif- ferent from what we’ve normally done,” she said. As Convene was going to press, approximately 40 event professionals were expected to attend Bernstein’s session, and also have the chance to go to the top of the Space Needle for a bird’s-eye view of the city. Now It’s Even Easier to Earn CEUs

If you’re applying or reapplying for CMP certification, Convene’s monthly CMP Series has been a reliable, convenient way to earn CEUs and stay informed for years. Now it’s even easier to continue your education by accessing the series and supplemental learning materials, including articles and videos, and tak- ing an assessment exam based on the article and supplemental materials for one credit hour — 24/7 — at convn.org/ cmp-online. After reading the CMP Series article

in Convene each month, either in print or online, test yourself on the skills you’ve learned, and get one step closer to earning or maintaining your CMP. Don’t miss this month’s series (p. 51)

about the importance of understanding and accommodating special dietary requirements at live events.
