VISUAL ARTS

AWESOMENAUTS Ronimo Games

Drawing on the unique art style of its Netherlands creators, Awesomenauts has all the eccentricity and pizzazz of a Saturday morning cartoon. Seeing the game’s roster of ragtag mercenaries, which consists of aliens, robots and bipedal amphibians, do battle on-screen is as exciting as its title implies.

CSR RACING Boss Alien

CSR Racing is one of the most graphically accomplished mobile titles available. Even with seemingly complex meshes and shaders providing console-quality graphics, the game weighs in at just 155MB and runs at full detail on every iOS device released in the last four years.

CRYSIS 3 Crytek

Eye-popping graphics are the first thing that comes to mind whenever a new Crytek title is released. Crysis 3 made use of distinctive design across multiple environments for its ‘Seven Wonders’ concept, received widespread praise for its visuals, and helped re- establish the series as a standard-bearer.

FORZA HORIZON Playground Games

Every year it appears games have reached their limit in the never-ending pursuit of quality. Forza Horizon manages to push the bar higher still with car models and gorgeous rural backdrops. Not content with rehashing, Playground Games boosted Turn 10’s engine and focused on achieving a consistent image quality across its open world.

HOTLINE MIAMI Dennaton Games

Dismembered bodies and all manner of objects that are too rude to mention here are part of what make the pixelated world of this 1980s throwback so hard to forget. Hotline Miami’s graphic nature is part of the game’s visceral thrill, and it is a testament to the creators that 16-bit worlds can still be arresting in today’s market.

LITTLEBIGPLANET VITA Tarsier Studios

LittleBigPlanet has been translated beautifully to PS Vita with very little compromise. Its familiar 2.5D world is awash with visual spark and is made all the more alive with the use of its touch- sensitive screen. Artistically rich and with Tarsier’s personal touch, LBP on Vita is a wonder.

RAYMAN JUNGLE RUN Pastagames

Retaining the painterly look of Rayman Origins, Jungle Run is a joy to behold on mobile or tablet. With the help of the UbiArt Framework, Pastagames has brought everything that players loved about the revived Rayman to the fore in this handheld iteration.

THE ROOM Fireproof Games

From solid-looking ornate door locks to polished, decorative boxes, care has been taken to give The Room’s inanimate objects a sense of presence. And, of course, there’s the technical intricacy with which the game’s mechanical strong boxes have been put together.
