APPYNATION
AppyNation is a developer-led consortium of independent studios from around the UK who have come together with the backing of NESTA to offer an alternative to the traditional publisher model. It has published titles such as Fluid Football by Chromativity, Guide the Light and Top Trumps.
KICKSTARTER UK
Crowdfunding service Kickstarter has turned the games business on its head. What began as a small movement of indie devs has spread to projects of all shapes and sizes. Some of the notable success stories that Kickstarter has helped include Oculus Rift, Ouya, Maia, Elite, Godus, Shadowrun and Star Citizen.
KISS
The team at Kiss take their inspiration from the punk mentality of the Sex Pistols. It’s challenging the big boys with its system of targeting and developers games to specific distributions outlets. The firm published Shadows on the Vatican, and has managed titles for the 1C Company and Lace Mamba Digital.
NATURALMOTION GAMES
NaturalMotion Games is one of the UK’s fastest growing mobile publishers. Having released a string of six worldwide number one games on the App Store since 2009, its publishing record is racking up. Most recently, CSR Racing topped the free and grossing charts across the world.
RIPSTONE
Through its work with fledging studios Ripstone has built a reputation for championing inquisitive game ideas that wouldn’t necessarily find their way to the digital storefront otherwise. Some of the studios its worked with include Four Door Lemon, Sawfly Studios and VooFoo Studios.
SQUARE ENIX EUROPE
Publishing the likes of Tomb Raider (2013), as well as IO Interactive’s Hitman: Absolution and Sleeping Dogs – which it saved from cancellation, Square’s European arm has added much value to the Final Fantasymaker in the last 2012 months. Open world action game Sleeping Dogs in particular lifted the publisher, taking the top spot in the UK on several occasions.

STRATEGIC CONTENT - SCEE
SCEE’s internal business development group has signed content from all over the world, building a roster for PS Vita and the upcoming PS4. Its engagement has been more open, more supportive and more wide-reaching than ever before. It’s teamed up with Curve Studios, Abstraction and lots more.
VALVE
Valve’s Steam service has continued to grow its user base and expand its digital offerings. In 2012, it introduced Steam Greenlight, a way for Steam users to help promote which games should be added to the service. Developers pay a fee – which is donated to charity, and players can pledge their support to get games added to the Steam service.
