MICRO STUDIO
BIG HEAD GAMES
Big Head Games has an incredible output for such as small studio. In 2012, it developed Intentional Snooker 2012 on iOS, Mac, PC, PS Vita and PS3, plus ZooZooGo! and Gangnam Bear for iOS. What’s more, all these games were written using its own internal tech. A sterling effort from this three-man team.
CRASH LAB
A fledgling studio with just three men as its core, Crash Lab is climbing the ranks of indie developers. Founded in 2011, its latest title The Snowman and the Snowdog outstripped expectations of Channel 4 and its creators, when it debuted on UK app stores alone in December, achieving nearly 1.2m downloads.
DENNATON GAMES
Jonatan Söderström, aka Cactus, has been making esoteric, impossibly-difficult, games for years, such as Fuck Space, Tuning and Clean Asia! In Hotline Miami, Söderström and his partner in crime Dennis Wedin have created an arcade throwback that’s reached gamers beyond a dedicated indie following.
FIREPROOF GAMES
Fireproof began life as an art outsourcer with game design dreams. Four years later, with projects under its belt but no publishing deal in sight, the team gambled on a building a puzzle game for the iPad in six months. The Roomprovided to be the key to unlocking new avenues for this talented team.
FUTURLAB
FuturLab’s work last year caught the attention of the games press and gamers, and it has since signed a landmark development deal with PlayStation to develop PS Vita content, while keeping its own IP and bringing them to other platforms. It managed this with just three full-time staff and two freelancers.
HOTSAUCE INTERACTIVE
Jonathan Ross’ new game studio is composed of just six staff, including the talk show host himself, his son, Harvey Ross, and former Lionhead designer Georg Backer. Between them, they have over 40 years of development experience. Hotsauce has released one title so far, Catcha Catcha Aliens!, which was well received by critics.

MIKE BITHELL
Thomas Was Alone was developed entirely by Mike Bithell during his time as lead designer at Bossa Studios. Devoting energy to the project in his own time, Bithell is an example of how a supportive studio and perseverance can help one to realise their games development dreams.
TERRY CAVANAGH
Fresh from creating the genius platforming title VVVVVV, Terry Cavanagh returned with Super Hexagon. This trippy puzzle game scored a Metacritic average of 86 and pulled in players, demonstrating that the simple marriage of gameplay and graphics is still able to produce experiences that captivate.
