Expedition Nautlius

as a family together, where the youngest kids could have fun, but for the older kids there also had to be adrenaline involved. Based on these findings, together with information from the masterplan we started selecting the rides and making drawings for the theming.

Worth The Wait

The timing was the biggest challenge in getting the new land ready for the start of the season. We had a winter opening in December and after that experienced tough winter conditions. We were working towards an ambitious deadline, and now I am happy that we were not ready for the Easter holidays, which were quite challenging. It was the coldest March in the Netherlands for the last 100 years and children were looking for Easter eggs in the snow! Eventually we opened Jules Verne Adventureland on 1 May, when we had beautiful weather. During the opening I took the first official ride on Nautilus Explorer. This is quite a water ride! We all had a lot of fun but exited completely wet! You can see the results on YouTube at bit.ly/11eNtgh (I’m the one in the green trousers). In fact, I love the whole Jules Verne area. Everything now comes together – the combination of the right rides, the themed shops, catering outlets, even our ride operators’ uniforms. It all makes a difference. The first feedback from our guests has been really positive. It feels like we are on the right track, but we will review this from time to time to ensure we take the next steps in the same direction.
