India’s first theme park


Mumbai’s newest tourist destination opened last month. An ambitious development from entertainment industry entrepreneur Manmohan Shetty, the INR 16 billion ($290m/€220m) Adlabs Imagica is also India’s first theme park


ocated to the southeast of the Indian capital alongside the Pune expressway, the 110-acre (45-hectares) park opened on 18 April and


boasts 16 world-class attractions from leading suppliers including Zamperla, S&S Worldwide, Sally Corporation, Gosetto, Preston & Barbieri and IE Park. “Adlabs Imagica is the result of many years’ work to bring international experiences to India,” explains Adlabs Entertainment chairman Manmohan Shetty, who made his name in film and television production. Responsible for over 20 blockbuster Bollywood movies, he also founded the Adlabs multiplex cinema including


the world’s largest IMAX dome theatre. “We wanted today’s Indians to be proud of an experience in their own country,” continues Shetty. “We have enjoyed making these attractions and want the visitors to enjoy them. We hope that Adlabs Imagica will become a tourism destination like no other.” Built with capacity for between 10,000 and 15,000 guests per day, Adlabs Imagica features a mix of traditional theme park rides, multimedia attractions and storytelling rides, spread across five themed zones: Viva Europa, Arabia, Asiana, Americana, India and Jambo Africa.


Scream Machines


Thrill seekers will love the Scream Machine, a Zamperla Giant Discovery (Frisbee), and the D2 Drop (Dare To Drop) tower ride from S&S. Gold Rush Express, which features a similar track layout to Ocean Park’s West Mine Train in Hong Kong, is a 710-metre- long Zamperla coaster. It includes two underground sections and rises to a maximum height above ground of 21-metres. The top speed is 76kmh. Two 26-seater trains are provided, providing theoretical hourly capacity for 1,000 guests.

on Rajasaurus River Adventure, soar over stunning Indian landscapes on I for India, enjoy the magic of Bollywood movies on the Mr India simulator ride or walk through the ruins of an ancient temple in Wrath of the Gods, blending live theatre, special effects and multimedia. Sinbad Aur Chalis Chorr, an elaborate dark ride by Sally, features cars and track by Gosetto. As well as the River Adventure, additional water rides comprise Splash Ahoy! (Preston & Barbieri Splash Battle) and the Loch Ness Explorers flume ride by IE Park. Further family attractions include Save The Pirate (P&B Interactive Tower), Mambo Chai Chama
