Splash Away Bay Quassy expands waterpark experience

In Middlebury, Connecticut, Quassy Amusement Park’s plunge into the waterpark business a decade ago with Saturation Station pumped new life into the family-owned property. More water play is promised this season with the unveiling of Splash Away Bay on 25 May. “With the huge expansion of the waterpark for this season, we felt now was the appropriate time


Quassy is virtually doubling the size of what was formerly centred around an interactive water playground with the addition of a BulletBowl raft ride and pair of FreeFall extreme body slides, by ProSlide. Also featured as part of the Splash Away Bay experience will be a 2,000-sq-ft splashpad by Vortex Aquatic Structures International. Quassy’s waterpark expansion is part of a multi-year projected $5 million improvement plan initiated in 2009. The first phase was completed in 2010 with the addition of a drop tower from SBF/Visa.

24-hour Disney! Many loyal fans already eat, sleep and


breathe Disney, but on May 24 visitors to Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland Resort in California will be able to enjoy their favourite park non-stop until the early hours during a special 24-hour opening event. The Disney All-Nighter will kick off the Memorial Day weekend at the Magic Kingdom (Walt Disney World) and at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. Each park will open from 6am to 6am the following morning. To launch the event, the sphere of EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth (pictured) was transformed into a 180ft-tall, fully animated Mike Wazowski creation from the upcoming Disney-Pixar movie Monsters University. Various other Monsters promotions will be held at Disney’s parks over the coming months to give the film a push.

Diego Zoo California’s San Diego Zoo Safari Park has introduced BalloonWalk, the fourth balloon ride in the United States operat- ed by the French company Aerophile. Passengers on board an admire giraffes, rhinos, lions and gazelles from 150 metres above the ground and, once a day, watch the “cheetah run” at the foot of the balloon.
