Halloween comes early to Alton Towers!

Last month saw the arrival at Alton Towers of a new UK event for operators of haunted attractions. The inaugural Halloween & Scare Attractions Show (H&SAS) was attended by over 100 delegates.

Organised by The Scare Network, the one-day conference, mini trade show and awards ceremony on 10 April attracted delegates from the UK, Jersey, Germany and the Netherlands. Seminars included a presentation from Jason

Scare Entertainment, discussing Imagineering and “the art of scare,” Rick Turner from The Big Sheep farm park with an insightful session on teamwork, and some interestingl facts, figures and case studies from Steve Tomlin from RANA Risk Management and Vision XS’ Tony Sefton. One of the day’s highlights was a “hands- on” workshop hosted by brothers Gary and

Simon Smith from Fear FX. Starting with just the bare skeleton of a room, two groups had 30 minutes to create, decorate and furnish a frightful environment that could easily be recreated in any scare maze. Other seminar topics included attraction operation and management, make- up, insurance and marketing, while a panel session with a team of experts rounded off the formal business. Following the conference, delegates were allowed access to The
