In the Studio With Marc Romboy TECH

instrument is never able to replace. The soul and the vital touch of this little silver box is impossible to simulate. Besides this, I have a lot of vintage analogue synths like the Korg Polysix, Moog machines and the Roland Jupiter 6 of course. For sequencing I use Cubase and Live 8, but sometimes I also use Logic 9. I really like Live 8 because of its session mode. Besides this, I love the virtual synthesisers of Arturia and Korg, and everything Waves and UAD produce — amazing tools. What fresh new tunes have you got coming up? “Blake Baxter and I have just finished our new single called ‘The Art Of Sound’, and I’m also working on our third single release with my dear friend Rodriguez Jr. from Brussels. Besides this, I’ve just finished a remix for Mike Dunn & Victor Simonelli’s house classic ‘Nothing Stays the Same’. And hopefully in around one year’s time

my solo album will finally be ready, because my last one was released in 2008!” What is your DJ set-up when you play live? “I was using Traktor, CD players and the Faderfox controllers until summer 2011. During a show in Johannesburg, the entire system crashed and I decided to leave it with laptops on stage. Now I have switched over to playing with the Pioneer CDJ2000s and flash drive, plus additional sound machines like the Korg Monotribe — which I synchronize with the support of an iPhone app — and the Pioneer RMX 1000, which is an amazing machine, once you know how to use it in an effective way.” Are you planning on expanding the DJ set-up and playing ‘live’ gigs? “Yes, I’m currently working on a live show and I already have many ideas about how to realize it. The visual factor is of course an essential

one, because it’s very impressive how it can underline a good musical performance. I have just seen Kraftwerk live in Düsseldorf and they once again proved how great a show can be, once you have a good visual show behind you. I think it will still take some time to entirely set it up, but I definitely want to reach a level where I can flexibly react to the audience, and not only fire out the sound clips. It will take a little while still, but believe me, I’m on it.” Le Petit Prince was such a well-respected label — will you ever resurrect it? “It’s funny that you are mentioning this because

the label will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year, and I’m already currently working on a jubilee compilation. It’s planned for autumn 2013 and of course I will represent and mix it, as it was my very first imprint — established with Klaus Derichs back in the day.”
