ON THE FLOOR BEHIND THE SCENE STEVE CALOGERO JR.

It’s an undisputed fact that over the past two years the dance music scene has exploded in America, and with the development of any new craze comes an opportunity to grab market share. With countless entrepreneurs and successful super-promoters realizing business opportunity and seizing their share of the market, finding your place among the international conglomerates and mega- moguls is easier said than done. So when a new face shows up on the collective EDM administrative radar, people tend to notice.

24 year old criminal justice major turned promoter, booking agent, and talent manager Steve Calogero found his way into the dance music scene in a way you might not imagine.

“I’ve always loved dance music, but I never knew I wanted to be a professional in this business until after my first clubbing experience” said Calogero, “It was at Avalon in 2003 for a prom event. We were supposed to be separated from the entire club, but we weren’t, and being that I was only 16 I kept thinking it was really cool. When I went to Pacha for my first time, it was minimal tech house, and the crowd really wasn’t my scene. Two weeks later, my friends wanted to go back. I didn’t really want to, but they told me this amazing act called “Above & Beyond” was playing there. Reluctantly, I went along with them. I’m glad that they talked me into it, because that night changed my life.”

Since that faithful day Calogero has gone on to work in nearly every position in the nightclub arena, eventually including service and management. Steve has just wrapped up a successful term in the position of Director and Talent Buyer at Bliss Nightclub in Clifton, where he put Bliss on the map as the best EDM hotspot in Northern NJ bringing some of the scenes most notable and respected acts including Fedde le Grand, Erick Morillo, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, Zedd, Project 46, TJR, and many more. “When I joined the amazing team at Bliss, I had a vision for the way I wanted to run it, and it worked out very well. I couldn’t do it without the help of the great people I was surrounded by on a daily basis.” Steve leveraged this success to secure his new position, where he is pursuing even bigger challenges with a brand new club, details coming soon. To Steve the job of being an agent is more than just a job; it’s a avenue for his artistic vision of giving back to the music world. Like most of us, Steve says, music has been there to help him through ups and downs, and as he puts it has “guided him through his entire life”.
