THE INSPIRING ROAD TO PRODUCING AN ALBUM WITH ANDREW BAYER
When we think about Anjunabeats music, what usually comes to mind fi rst is a production encompassed by a 4/4 beat layered with uplifting synths and a powerful bass line. With his second studio album If It Were You We’d Never Leave, Andrew Bayer manages to deliver a luscious array of musical productions that suppress any previously established genre constraints. Hailing from Anjunabeats, Bayer’s sophomore LP is divided into three sections that come together to form one continuous, sensational journey. Bayer places experience and emotion at the epicenter of it all, and has crafted an album that narrates the story of his life through feelings such as chaos, compassion, serenity and affec- tion. Dreamlike and universal, If It Were You We’d Never Leave is able to stand out in a market where singles and EPs have become the standard format. As our interview confi rms, Bayer is as humble as he is dedicated to his craft. Read on to discover his musical inspirations, how he has grown as an artist, and the message he is trying to transmit with his most recent album. If It Were You We’d Never Leave was released on April 15th with the Anjunabeats family.
What inspired the name, If It Were You, We’d Never Leave? What about the individual track titles?
The name is actually from Battlestar Galactica, which I am obsessed with. It also fi ts in line with the saga of epic nerd titles I’ve had for my music. I’m absolutely a massive fan of Battlestar Galactica and it represents a very personal thing for me. It’s a very touching scene in the show where one of the main characters says it to his son. I immediately had such an emotional response, so I wanted to pay a tribute to it. In terms of the individual track titles, usually I feel like whenever I’m naming a track it can be one of two things: completely random, which is very viable, or based on emotions. A lot of times a track will capture specifi c emotions or a snapshot of some part of my life that it reminds me of. For example, one of the track titles on my new album is Farnsworth Court, which pays homage to the house I grew up in.
