HIGH FIVE HIGH FIVE

SENSATION ROGERS CENTRE, TORONTO

WORDS BY K LEA

OUR TEAM SCOURS THE PARTIES HAPPENING ACROSS OUR COUNTRY EACH MONTH TO PICK OUR CAN’T MISS EVENTS AND PRESENT THEM TO YOU. THESE ARE OUR PICKS FOR MAY 6 – JUNE 3.

PIKNIC ELECTRONIK JEAN DRAPEAU PARK, MONTREAL

This year, Europe’s legendary Sensation party is coming to Canada! Debuting in Toronto on June 1, Canada will play host to one of the world’s biggest and most impressive parties for the first time ever. Each year, Sensation attendees expect the party to get better and better, and with this year’s theme, “Ocean of White,” it sounds like the Sensation crew has outdone themselves again. Transforming the Roger’s Centre into a majestic underwater world, partygoers will be transported to another dimension. There will be some 40 water fountains, a giant bridge spanning across the venue, a gigantic anemone hosting the DJ booth, pearl oysters and hired dancers and performers roaming across the bridge and venue. On top of the grandiose production put into this show, the Sensation crew has chosen a line up of top-notch talent to carry the audience through the night. DJs include Mr. White, 2000 and One, Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano, Fedde Le Grand, Erik Prydz, Otto Knows and MC Gee. Fun event fact: Fedde Le Grand has played at over 25 Sensation parties worldwide. Deluxe Tickets are already sold out, however regular tickets are still available for $125.50 at www.sensation.com. Don’t forget to wear your white, as this is a white party!

JEREMY OLANDER CIRCUS, MONTREAL

So it’s no secret that we’re massive Eric Prydz fans here at DJ Mag. So when we had the chance to see one of Pryda’s protégés Fehrplay in his Canadian debut last month in Ottawa, we jumped at the opportunity, which ended up being one of the best parties of the year so far. Jeremy Olander is another Pryda Friends member who has learned from the best in the game, bringing his dark, emotional progressive house productions to the massive Funktion One system in one of the world’s top clubs. It is yet to be seen whether Olander will make an appearance with his mentor and label-boss in Toronto the following night after Sensation, so if you want to catch some solid Pryda Friends material on a proper system and you’re not heading to Sensation, do not miss this event.

What better way to wrap up MUTEK2013 then a daytime dance party? Headliners for this afternoon soiree include Sweden’s Axel Boman, Germany’s DeWalta, and Netherland’s San Proper. Each one of these DJs fits easily into the ethos of the MUTEK festival, to showcase groundbreaking, creative artists. Axel Boman has even been included in the reputable Red Bull Music Academy, one of the best accolades any artist can gather. For $14, this show is a steal, catering to “advanced listeners, and newcomers” alike. Piknic Electronik is meant to be unifying to all lovers of electronic music, and is also a family event. The MUTEK addition is the perfect partnership between two Montreal staples.
