DUBFIRE AND SHADED (LIVE) LS LIVE, OTTAWA
The SCI-TEC boss returns to Ottawa for the first time in years, accompanied by one of the label’s brightest rising stars Shaded, playing live in his Ottawa debut. The duo that closed out Bal en Blanc’s house room this year are bringing the darkest sounds of the underground to an eager group of techno fans that have been waiting patiently for this party to arrive in Ottawa. Billed as an “Escapade pre-party”, this night will set the tone for the tech-focused stage at DNA’s Canada Day weekend blowout, which will feature Steve Lawler, Umek, Chus & Ceballos and Sebastien Leger among others. The intimate dance floor at LS Live will fill up quickly for this SCI-TEC showcase, and we can count on at least one or two after party options to be announced in the days before the party. No matter your tastes, we urge you to grab a ticket to this event and join us on the dance floor for a full night of pounding techno fueled by one of the genre’s most notorious purveyors, Mr. Ali Dubfire.

MACEO PLEX STEREO, MONTREAL
Fresh off mixing the latest edition of the legendary DJ Kicks series, the deep house master brings his future groove stylings to Montreal’s favourite after hours haven this month. Like his signature mix, you can expect Maceo Plex to cross the spectrum from 90’s techno to the freshest unreleased cuts from his personal collection. Describing his take on the mix in a recent interview, Maceo Plex said “I just wanted to make something cool and deep and futuristic … I want to play me, if that means going dark I’m going darker, if it means getting groovy I’ll go really groovy”. With local favourite Maher Daniel warming up the room and no reason to stop the party until well into the following day, the one could turn into a marathon party powered by the best sound in our country and one of the most talented producer/DJ’s of our time.

The Bloom Series is a series of documentaries, taking a “journey through transformational festivals.” Divided into four parts, the documentary series features a look at several festivals throughout mainly North America, but also the world at large, and highlights human consciousness, and how it is affected by the creativity and love at these events. Some of you may recognize one of the film creators Jeet-Kei Leung from his TED Talk about transformational festivals, as well as his spoken word work with a couple different artists and filmmakers in the dance music community. Part two of this wonderous and beautiful film project will be screening at the Plaza Theatre in Calgary’s trendy Kensington district, and best of all there will be a dance party before and afterwards, with a fully licensed bar. Beginning at 8:00 pm, attendees will be greeted with a fire performance outside the theatre, during which time there will be music in the theatre lobby from D’Lazy Llama, pausing for the film screening which begins at 9:30 p.m. sharp. After the movie, the music will pick up again with DJs Tokyo, KousK, headliner from Vancouver Kytami, and ending with Lorne B. Earlybird tickets are flying fast for $15, and can also be bought on the next price tier for $20. Visit the site online tickets, or Grassroots in Kensignton for physical tickets.
